About the workshop

This all-levels workshop will explore transposing of language into movement. How does the body express specific meanings of language? Is there something more that is captured when the body engages in motion that can’t be grasped by the literal? This workshop doesn’t focus on dance techniques but rather, focuses on the individual's emotional experiences to bring meaning to the movement we create. We will be using some ASL (American Sign Language) to get more fully and directly into the body by exploring a gestural and spatial language. Here the body discovers its vast network of communicative powers in a non-verbal form, abstracted by poetry and enhanced by meaning.

About Cai (he/him)

In an on-going and endless discovery of dance, Cai Glover has been training, performing and creating in the art form for 25 years. Most recently, with his company A Fichu Turning, Cai has been developing expression in poetry and in a language of movement, putting the dancing body to task in a search of an embodied poetics. He never tires of finding ways to bring affect to audiences through this art form and to appeal to the varied and countless emotional experiences of the human being. Cai has also choreographed for Cas Public and has had the great privilege, over the course of his career, to work with creators Helene Blackburn, John McFall, Simone Orlando, Lauri Stallings, Edgar Zendejas, Mathieu Murphy-Perron and many others. As a hard of hearing artist, hearing differently has become a driving force of his artistry and originality as a mover, interpreter and choreographer.
