The Odd Volume

The Odd Volume traces my memories of 70’s Vancouver alongside stories about the diasporic rupture of my immediate family. Central to the piece are questions around my immigrant experience as a first generation Chinese Filipina settler, ranging from when I was five years old in 1973 to my adult experiences five decades later. What does it mean to know that I will never arrive yet always yearn to belong? Leaning into poetic dissonance, the work unsilences the odd volume of my identity and maps a road to healing.” – Ziyian Kwan
